Department of Labor Releases PERM Statistics
The Department of Labor released statistics on the PERM program. Some of the statistics are quite interesting.
The PERM program became operable March 28, 2005. The first set of statistics discusses the cumulative production of the PERM program from its inception in March 2005 to March 2007. During that period 171,750 cases were filed. The number of approved cases was 129,973. The number of denied cases was 37,401 and 4,476 cases were withdrawn.
The other interesting set of numbers related to filings in the the first quarter of DOL FY2007 (10/1/06 - 12/31/06). Highlights from this filing period included the following:
- 28,000 cases were certified in the quarter
- California (5,494), New York (3,508), New Jersey (2,633), Florida (2,021) and Texas (1,873) were the states that had the most cases certified.
- 160 countries were represented
- India was the top country represented with 8,354 of the certified cases. China was a distant second with 2,170 cases certified.
- The top 10 job titles certified were:
- Computer Software Engineers
- Computer Systems Analysts
- Restaurant Cooks
- Electronics Engineers
- Computer and Information Systems Managers
- Financial Analysts
- Market Research Analysts
- Electrical Engineers
- Computer Programmers
- Mechanical Engineers
