Hiring Illegal Aliens Costs Company $450,000
On September 11, George’s Processing Inc, a southwest Missouri poultry processing plant, paid an administrative fine of $450,000 as a part of a settlement agreement.
The Missouri plant was the target of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) workforce investigation in 2007, when 136 illegal workers from Guatemala and Mexico were arrested. ICE intends to the money in its effort to promote worksite and law enforcement programs and activities. The company was directed to create a compliance program, and to train human resource and other employees on how to avoid the hiring of illegal aliens. Two company employees were convicted on the grounds of harboring illegal aliens and inducing illegal aliens to remain in the U.S. Of the 136 illegal workers, 28 were criminally prosecuted for a number of immigration violations.
